Usage:


1, Used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Dual inhibitor of 5a-reductase isoenzymes type 1 and 2; structurally related to Finasteride.
2, antihypertensive, ACE inhibitor
3, Dutasteride is a dual inhibitor of 5α-reductase isoenzymes type 1 and 2; structurally related to Finasteride (F342000). Dutasteride is used in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia.

 

 

Description :
 

1).Avodart is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Dutasteride is useful for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH); colloquially known as an "enlarged prostate". In those who are being regularly screened, 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors such as finasteride and dutasteride reduce the overall risk of being diagnosed with prostate cancer; however, there is insufficient data to determine if they have an effect on the risk of death and may increase the chance of more serious cases.

 

2). Avodart is a synthetic 4-azasteroid compound that is a selective inhibitor of both the type 1 and type 2 isoforms of steroid 5 alpha-reductase, an intracellular enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT.

 

 

Applications:

 

1). Treating symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or enlargement of the prostate gland. It also helps to reduce the risk of urinary blockage and the need for surgery to treat BPH. It may be used alone or along with another medicine (tamsulosin).

Dutasteride is a 5 alpha-reductase enzyme inhibitor. It works by lowering levels of a hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is a major cause of prostate growth. Lowering DHT leads to shrinkage of the enlarged prostate gland.

 

2). How to use Avodart?

A. At 2.5mgs/day is roughly 1.5x more effective than Finasteride at 5mgs/day,

B, At treating hair loss (both halting it as well as regrowing it).

In addition, Dutasteride can be used successfully at that same dose to treat prostate enlargement

 

3). Do NOT use Avodart if?

A. You are allergic to any ingredient in dutasteride or to another 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor (eg, finasteride)

B. The patient is a woman who is pregnant or may become pregnant

C. The patient is a child.
